French Compound Past - Le Passe compose






The French compound past is the most used past tense and the easiest one to learn.
English speakers:
In French, the structure "auxiliary + past participle" is used when the action that took place in the past is completely finished, has no links with the present.


You already know how to conjugate avoir and Être.
Most verbs use avoir as their auxiliary verb.
The reflexive verbs and the verbs of movement use Être.
You conjugate the auxiliary verb and add the past participle.


Present:
J'achète des fraises.
Compound past:
J'ai acheté des fraises.


The negation is on the auxiliary verb:
Je n'ai pas acheté de fraises.
