French Verbs: Vouloir Pouvoir

Vouloir and Pouvoir are among the Top 10 French verbs. You cannot do without them.
Only 3 verbs end with "x" in the first and second singular persons: vouloir, pouvoir and valoir (je vaux, tu vaux).
Obviously, the first two ones show more often than the third. You have few opportunities to say je vaux, but to say je veux or je peux (and je ne veux pas or je ne peux pas as well) is never a problem.

You already know that ĂȘtre, avoir and aller are pretty irregular and have to be known by heart.
You also know how to conjugate all -er verbs in the present:
Je reste, tu restes, il reste, nous restons, vous restez, ils restent.
There are other verbs that follow this pattern: the verbs whose the infinitive ends in -rir. Among the Top 100 we find: offrir, courir, ouvrir and souffrir.

What you know for sure about how to conjugate a verb in the present tense of the indicative mood (and that is simpler than the title!)

Je Tu Il, elle, on Nous Vous Ils, elles, les gens
-e, -s, -x -es, -s, -x -e, -t, -t -ons -ez -ent, -nt
offre, viens, peux offres, viens, peux offre, vient, peut offrons, venons, pouvons offrez, venez, pouvez offrent, viennent, peuvent

Do not forget that, except for the usual gang: ĂȘtre, avoir, aller, the first third persons sound the same.

The variations of the endings exist only in the present tense of the indicative.
The endings of the present conditionnal are always:
-rais, -rais, -rait, -rions, -riez, -raient, even for the 3 bad guys.
The first third persons and the last plural person always sound the same.
